Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 vs Exynos 2400: Benchmarks Hint Samsung’s Chip May Be Almost as Fast as Its Competitor

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is one of the most powerful Android flagship chipsets available today, and the chipset will power several flagships in the coming months, including the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S24 series. It is expected to be included in ship smartphones. The company reportedly plans to include Exynos 2400 chips in some phones in its lineup in most markets. Current benchmarks for this chip suggest that Samsung’s in-house flagship chip may not be far behind Qualcomm’s most powerful processor.

Previous flagship Exynos chips have lagged behind their Qualcomm counterparts in terms of performance, but a recent entry on benchmarking site Geekbench (via SamMobile) suggests they’ll be featured in some Galaxy S24 series phones. The expected Exynos 2400 chip has closed the gap with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in performance.

The Samsung Galaxy S24+, which is said to be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, scored 2,297 points in Geekbench’s single-core test and 7,104 points in the multi-core test. Meanwhile, the Geekbench 6 test of the Samsung Galaxy S24+ with Exynos 2400 chip shows that the phone scored 2,193 points in the single-core test and 6,895 points in the multi-core test.

As SamMobile points out, these results show that the Samsung Galaxy S24+ with the Exynos 2400 chip is a significant improvement compared to previous benchmarks. Previously, the Qualcomm chip was 8% and 5% faster in single-core and multi-core tests, but the latest tests have dropped to 4% and 3%, respectively, showing that the gap between both chipsets has narrowed.

It’s worth noting that these are early benchmarks for a phone that is allegedly not yet released. Scores for these phones may change after release. Similarly, benchmarks don’t provide the whole picture. Both chips’ ability to handle sustained workloads without throttling can be measured after companies launch the phones.

Unlike last year, when Samsung equipped the entire Galaxy S23 series with a custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip for the Galaxy. This year’s top-of-the-line Galaxy S24 Ultra is rumored to have a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. But the Galaxy The Galaxy S24+ is said to be powered by either Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or Exynos 2400 in various markets.
